ASTM A554 covers welded stainless steel mechanical tubing (including square and rectangular sections) primarily for ornamental, structural, and mechanical purposes. ASTM A312 covers welded and seamless austenitic stainless steel pipe designed for high-temperature and corrosive service with mandatory hydrostatic testing. A554 square pipes are suitable for architectural and structural use, while A312 square pipes are required when the pipe must contain pressurised fluids or pass third-party pressure testing.

We supply SS square pipe in multiple finishes. Mill finish (2B) is standard for structural applications. Hairline or satin finish (No.4, 180-grit) provides a brushed appearance for architectural use. Mirror polish (No.8, 600-grit) gives a highly reflective surface for interior decor and retail fixtures. We also offer bead-blasted, titanium-coated (gold, rose gold, black), and PVD-coated finishes for decorative applications. All polished pipes are supplied with protective PE film.

Yes, but the grade and wall thickness must be selected appropriately. SS 304 square pipe with wall thickness of 2mm or above is commonly used for structural applications such as balustrades, canopy frames, and mezzanine railings. For primary structural members, engineering calculations per IS 800 or AISC standards should be performed. We can supply section properties (moment of inertia, section modulus) for all our stock sizes to assist your structural engineer.

SS 202 is a nitrogen-strengthened austenitic grade that substitutes manganese for some of the nickel content in 304, making it more economical. However, 202 has lower corrosion resistance than 304, particularly in chloride environments and coastal areas. SS 202 is suitable for indoor furniture, display stands, and dry-environment structural use. SS 304 is recommended for outdoor architectural applications, food processing equipment, and anywhere corrosion resistance is important.
