Storage & Maintenance of SS Pipes
Proper Storage
Store on wooden/plastic supports, never directly on ground or carbon steel. Keep end caps on. Indoor storage preferred for polished/mirror finish pipe.
Avoid Contamination
Never use carbon steel wire brushes, grinding discs, or chains on SS pipe. Iron particles embed in the surface and cause rust spots within days.
Post-Weld Treatment
After welding, always pickle and passivate (HNO3 + HF solution or paste) to restore the protective chromium oxide layer.
Periodic Inspection
For installed piping, inspect annually for pitting (especially at welds), crevice corrosion under gaskets, and stress corrosion at bends in chloride environments.
